The Popdust Files: 4th of july, concerts, firework, katy perry, Part of Me

Things about Katy Perry’s impossibly American 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular performance at the Brooklyn Navy Yard that are awesome (or at least very notable):

1. That dress. Oh my god, that dress. It’s not just a dress, it’s also a cape, a superhero costume, and should she die suddenly and tragically on stage, a burial shroud. Even by Katy costuming standards, that’s a versatile garment.

2. Her all-navy backing band, which I gotta say, has definite kind of Robert Palmer potential for Katy should she ever decide to take them on tour with her.

3. Ditto the camo-dressed backing dancers.

4. These presumably hardened military men and women singing along at the top of their lungs “You just gotta igniiiiite…the liiiiiiiight….and leeeeetttt…it shiiiiine…” Can’t imagine what their reaction to Kid Rock would have been.

5. The part where Katy provocatively straddles one of the ship’s canons like it was a phallus. (Oh wait, that was Cher, actually.)
